Malvern Standoff

Geneva County authorities say a four-hour standoff with a man threatening to take his own life ended peacefully, thanks to time and careful negotiation.

Just after midnight Thursday, Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward and deputies took Scott Williamson into custody. Williamson kept police at bay for hours.

With his father and brother in the home, Williamson reportedly threatened to kill himself with a shotgun.

At one point, Williamson did fire the gun into the ceiling. Police then shot him with a dart from a tazer stun gun.

Sheriff Ward says Williamson had recently been released from a drug treatment center. It's believed crystal-meth is behind the ordeal.

Williamson was taken to an area hospital for mental evaluation. He's expected to face criminal charges.
