Coffee Co. Report Two New Case of Rabies

Two wild animals have tested positive for rabies in Coffee County.

A rabid raccoon and a rabid fox were both found inside the Elba city limits earlier this month.

Doctor Mel Stevens of the State Health Department says there were no human exposures to the disease. He urges residents to have their pets vaccinated and to avoid contact with wild animals.

Dr. Stevens says it is especially important to warn children to stay away from any animal showing strange behavior.

Coffee County has a total of four confirmed cases of rabies, so far this year.
