Florida's Highest Point

Did you know that Florida's highest point is in Britton Hill?

It's a small community in Northern Walton County, a half-mile from the Alabama state line and it may soon draw many tourists.

At 345-feet elevation, Britton Hill is Florida's highest point. It's also the lowest, highest point of any state in the country.

Recently, the Tri-cities Chamber of Commerce, which represents Florala, Paxton and Lockhart was contacted by two national organizations. The American Volksport Association and the Highpointers Club would like to see nature trails at the site.

With eco-tourism on the rise, it may be a good time to promote the natural beauty in Northern Walton County. Tri-cities Chamber President Kerry Stewart would like to acquire local and state funds to help clear out two existing walking trails built 30-years ago.

If funding can be found, it's hoped local gardening groups will chip in and provide identification and markings for existing plants in the area.
