Tri-State Plant Food Update

Dothan fire officials are still investigating Tuesday night's chemical leak at the Tri-State Plant Food.

A Tri-State spokesman says an inspection team has been called in to check all pumps in the plant. When that is complete, things should get back to normal.

Tuesday night, a cloud of ammonia gas leaked outside one of the holding tanks. Plant workers were able to contain the leak.

Dothan hazardous materials crews evacuated workers and blocked off nearby streets until everything was under control.

More than 1,000 neighborhood residents had to be evacuated because of a major ammonia leak at the plant three years ago.

Subsequent lawsuits forced the company into bankruptcy.

But attorneys for Tri-State Plant Food announced Wednesday the company will be paying all of its debts in full and coming out from under bankruptcy protection while continuing to operate.
