The Coffee County jail has a new administrator; Correctional Officer Ruth Scheipe has taken over reigns at the facility.
Sheriff Ben Moates has appointed Scheipe on an interim basis to run the 120-bed facility in New Brockton. She will take over for Zack Ennis who has been placed on medical leave.
Coffee County is no different from the majority of Wiregrass jails.
Overcrowding remains a big problem. Scheipe says it's one of the major issues she'll address while working as administrator.
"It’s frightening to know that you are responsible for the citizens of Coffee County. Care, custody and control. The control affects the citizens of the county and we will practice all three C's while I’m here," said Scheipe.
Besides overcrowding, Scheipe says she will also work on trying to reduce the amount of contraband that comes into the jail.
