Over the weekend, Slocomb residents met with community leaders, government officials and law enforcement personnel to discuss the drug problem in their town. Together they hope to find ways to crack down on drug users and sellers.

In the last two weeks, the Slocomb Police Department arrested 18 people on drug charges. Four of those arrested were middle school students and a third grader was reportedly arrested with a pocketful of marijuana as well.

The Wiregrass Boys and Girls Club plan to start after school and summer programs in Slocomb.

Slocomb Mayor Vickie Moore says she's committed to winning the war on drugs in Slocomb.

Mayor Moore also said this is a step in the right direction for Slocomb. And she is challenging other communities to step up and deal with drug abuse head on as well.
