Geneva School Budget

One Wiregrass school official is happy about the governor's promise to put more money in education.

But Geneva City School Superintendent Jim Bixby felt compelled to take preventative measures. If they don't get more money, Geneva City is looking at a six to eight-percent proration.

That's a reduction of nearly $400,000. By a unanimous vote, the school board followed Bixby's recommendation to cut nine non-tenured teachers and nine support staff employees.

If the legislature comes up with the additional funding, Bixby has promised those laid-off employees that they'll get their jobs back.
