Geneva Fire

A Wiregrass youngster is battling for his life at the Children's Hospital Burn Unit in Birmingham.

Authorities say six-year-old Cody Tyler tried to save his grandmother's life during a mobile home fire in Geneva.

Wanda Edberg would find her mother's bible in the rubble along with irreplaceable family pictures.

Around 1 a.m. Saturday flames broke out from a Geneva mobile home. Severely burnt, Cody managed to escape through his bedroom window. Cody's grandmother, Shirley Tyler, also severely burnt got out.

Both desperately looked for the other, Mrs. Tyler collapsed and died at the UAB Burn Center. Cody is reportedly responding well to treatment at Children's Hospital.

The cause of the fire has not been released.
