Georgia Flag

The Georgia Legislature and Gov. Sonny Perdue agreed Friday to temporarily replace the current state flag with a new design.

Voters will choose between the new design and the current flag next month.

Perdue originally called for a vote on the confederate version of Georgia's flag but backed off his position after black lawmakers succeeded in defeating the idea.

One legislator says he's glad lawmakers finally decided to drop the controversial confederate symbol which caused "too much frustration and concern."
