DUI Grant

Gov. Bob Riley has awarded the Department of Forensic Sciences a $125,000 grant to train police how to arrest DUI offenders.

The funding comes from the National Traffic Safety Administration and will be used to teach officers how to conduct field sobriety tests. The money will also help pay for education workshops and to maintain a state database of trained instructors and officers. Most of the training will be conducted at state police academies.

Alabama is one of 35 states that has lowered the permissible blood alcohol concentration to .08.
