U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss has toured three of Georgia's military bases to discuss ways to improve the facilities as the government begins reviewing which of the nation's bases to close beginning in 2005.
Chambliss, a Republican member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, will be involved in the realignment and closure process.
Chambliss toured Fort Benning, near Columbus, Thursday. He also was at Fort Gordon near Augusta and Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield near Savannah.
He said he DIDN'T think Fort Benning was at risk of being closed, but said there's the possibility of realignment.
Chambliss said Fort Gordon's missions in communications and military intelligence are unique but do not guarantee the post will stay open after 2005.
