Tuition Aid

tuition hike

Alabama National Guard personnel who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom will be eligible for tuition assistance at Alabama's two-year colleges.

The Alabama Board of Education yesterday also approved extending the assistance to people laid off by HealthSouth Corporation of Birmingham.

The board, meeting at J.F. Ingram State Technical College in Elmore County voted to grant refunds to students and spouses of students who were forced to withdraw from classes after they were called to active duty.

The tuition assistance will be available for summer and fall classes.

Alabama PostSecondary spokesman Tony Harris estimates as many as 100 students withdrew from classes due to military call-ups.
