Alabama First Lady Patsy Riley has announced she wants to renovate the governor's mansion and she plans to do it without spending tax dollars.

The First Lady has joined forces with a non-profit group called Friends of the Mansion to hold two fundraising events at the mansion in May.

800 tickets at $100 each will be sold each night. Ticket buyers will be invited back in November to see the changes.

Riley said she wants to return the house "to its glory days" and make it a must see attraction for visitors.

Riley pointed out worn rugs and upholstery, rotting wood, cracked moldings and missing plaster in the home first built in 1907.

The mansion's last major interior renovation occurred during Gov. Jim Folsom's administration in 1993 and cost $511,000.
