Base Closures

Alabama Senator Richard Shelby says he believes Fort Rucker will survive a new round of federal base closures scheduled for 2005.

Shelby made the comments during an appearance before the Wiregrass Chapter Association of the U.S. Army.

Shelby says Fort Rucker's mission is in line with the military's move to create a mobile, agile and lethal Army.

He says he also supports efforts to train helicopter pilots from other branches of the military at Fort Rucker. He says it is cost effective for the military.
