A law allowing the sale of draft beer in Houston County was passed on June 6, but now there is one more road block.
The city commission learned recently that in order for draft beer to be legal in a city, an ordinance has to be drawn up and voted on.
Immediately the commission had the papers drawn up and now is having a lawyer review them. The ordinance must be passed before July first in order for stores to start selling the brew.
Dothan City Manager Mike West said, “An ordinance will be for the upcoming agenda, and then based the city commission votes up or down we will know if draft beer will be available in Dothan,” said
The commission is planning to vote on the ordinance June 27.
