According to a recent survey the panhandle is no longer areas that can boasts of affordable living in Florida.
More than 2,000 workers in the resort areas of Destin and South Walton County were surveyed. Many workers say they have long commutes because they can't afford to live near their jobs.
Home prices in South Walton and the Destin area range from $300,000 to one million dollars.
Local officials say many workers spend half of their annual income on housing.
The survey will be used to support a request offering developers incentives including expedited permitting in exchange for providing work force housing.
