Jackson Co. Dilemma with Spring Breakers

The Jackson County commission took action this week to make sure Spring Creek doesn't become a spring break or a summer hangout for college students.

Spring creek is one of the most popular freshwater bodies of water in the Florida Panhandle. But residents say it has suddenly been discovered by college students mainly from Tallahassee and Troy.

Residents have reported loud music, massive amounts of litter and even nude sunbathing.

The Jackson County commission voted to spend more money on assigning deputies to patrol the area. Also, an emergency ordinance prohibits disposable containers.

From the chamber of commerce's perspective, Kim rough says it's essential to maintain spring creek as a family recreation spot.

"To find solution to return the park to authorities and families. To tell the kids there are other options. It basically got over run," said Kimbrough.
