A long anticipated project is underway in Coffee County.
There's no thru traffic in several sections of downtown Elba. Work has begun on replacing century-old sewage lines along Newton, Adkison and Farris streets.
Sewer line replacement is also scheduled for Martin Luther King Avenue.
$600,000 federal community development block grant is paying for the project.
Mayor James Grimes said, "Having some problems with the sewer lines in that area. Replacing most of the lines, the man holes and we hope it'll solve most of the problems with our sewer system in that area."
Traffic has been blocked from traveling on Newton Street, which is behind the Elba Post Office.
The contractor hopes to have the entire project completed within the next few months.
