Election Ballot

It's possible that President Bush could be left off of next year's presidential election ballot in Alabama.

The problem is that the Republican Party is holding a late convention next year to avoid conflict with the Olympics and won't choose a candidate until Sept. 2.

That's two days after Alabama's Aug. 31 deadline to certify presidential candidates.

State republicans are asking the democratic controlled legislature to change the law and extend the deadline until Sept. 5. That bill is on the House's agenda for Thursday.

But, some republicans say they are concerned the bill has been placed behind several controversial issues and may not even come up for consideration.
