Carroll High School Cheerleading Tryouts

The results of cheerleader tryouts at one Wiregrass high school have made some students and parents angry.

There are 17 whites and one black who made the cheerleading squad at Carroll High School in Ozark. Some parents are angry that the number of minority cheerleaders did not increase from last year.

They claim the selection process favors students from affluent backgrounds. The superintendent for Ozark city schools says there were two white judges and two black judges, who were from out of town, at this year's tryouts. Last year there was only one black judge.

He also says each girl was identified by number and not by name.

Dr. Payant also says they added four more slots for next year. That's because only one senior cheerleader is leaving.
