Alabama Unemployment

The Department of Industrial Relations said May's jobless rate was 5.7 percent -- compared to April's 5.6 percent in Alabama.

Nationally, the unemployment rate for May was 5.8 percent.

Director Alice McKinney said the figures represent 122,600 unemployed Alabamians.

Washington County had the highest jobless rate at 15.9 percent; Elmore and Lee counties share a jobless rate of 3.3 -- the lowest recorded in Alabama.
