Houston County School Cuts

The Houston County School Board is laying off dozens of teachers so they can balance next year's budget.

Supt. Kenneth Lord says eight percent proration forced him to cut back by more than $1.8 million.

The bulk of the cuts will result in the loss of 25 teachers and eight classroom aides.

But, after last night's school board meeting, Lord said there is a chance some of those people could keep their jobs.

School athletics departments will also be feeling the financial crunch next year.

Restrictions are being placed on all major sports and booster clubs are being asked to pick up the tab for all utility bills and transportation costs associated with games.
