Around 8 p.m. Saturday, a family member called authorities to report a possible shooting. The house is located in the Poplar Springs Community of Northern Holmes County.
Sheriff's deputies found the owners, George and Carelene Budd dead in the kitchen. Sheriff Dennis Lee says that it appears to be a murder-suicide.
They say George Budd fatally shot his wife with a handgun minutes before turning the weapon on himself. Both were 54 years old.
George Budd is a retired correctional officer from the Florida prison system. An autopsy is scheduled at the Bay County medical examiner's office in Panama City.
