2A Girls South Regional Semifinal

DOTHAN, AL -- LaTora Duff scored 15 points and Janesha Green added 14 points, leading Samson past Leroy 52-29 in the 2A South Regional Semifinals. With the win, the Tigers (27-1) advanced to face Providence Christian for the 2A Regional Title at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Dothan Civic Center.

After a tight first quarter, Samson took control. The Tigers broke open a 9-9 tie by outscoring Leroy 15-5 in the second quarter.

That domination continued in the second half, as Samson outscored Leroy 28-15 after the break to cruise to the victory.

Samson's defense sparked Wednesday's dominating win, forcing 33 turnovers. The Tigers also grabbed 21 offensive rebounds, earning repeated second chances against the Bears.

Kateland Koen led Leroy (18-8) with nine points.

Providence Christian - 52 Elba - 42

Mary Palm has been the driving force behind Providence Christian's success so far this season. On Wednesday, Palm was at it again, leading the Eagles to a 52-42 win over Elba in the 2A South Regional Semifinals.

Palm scored 19 points, grabbed nine rebounds and added five assists, leading the Eagles back to the Regional Finals for the second straight year at the Dothan Civic Center. Providence Christian will play Samson in the 2A Regional Final on Saturday at 9 a.m.

The Eagles steadily pulled away from Elba. After a 7-7 first quarter, the Eagles built a three-point lead by halftime, a six-point lead after the third quarter, and eventually a 10-point win over the Tigers.

Hannah Harris added 12 points and 11 rebounds for Providence Christian (20-6).

A'jaspin Whitfield led Elba with 21 points and 11 rebounds. The Tigers end the year with a 13-9 record.
