Liquor Petition in Elba

Liquor

For the first time in its 150-year history, alcohol sales in Elba are now legal. But, some residents are not happy about where people are choosing to do their drinking.

Residents of Elba's Mulberry Heights Neighborhood have collected signatures on a petition opposing alcohol sales within 20 feet of their children's school bus stop.

The owner of The Stop Game Room where beer is being sold "refused" to talk with News 4. The petition has angered several of its customers.

The Elba City Council says alcohol cannot be sold within 175 feet of a funeral home, church or school. But, there's nothing prohibiting its sale near a school bus stop.

Petition organizers say they're not trying to stop alcohol sales in Elba, they just don't want any drinking near that school bus stop.
