BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A family law attorney was abducted from a parking lot Wednesday morning by a gunman who dragged her back into the Lexus she had been driving and then drove off, police said.
Lt. Henry Irby said authorities were searching for Sandra Eubank Gregory, 34, and a Lexus RX 300 sport-utility vehicle, described as being greenish-gray in color. A child safety seat was in the back seat, but Irby said no children were believed to be inside.
Witnesses told police a gunman approached Gregory and forced her into the SUV about 8:30 a.m. near her downtown apartment, not far from her office.
Surveillance video from the parking lot shows a woman getting out of an SUV and then being approached by a man. The two are on the opposite side of the SUV from the camera for a few moments before the man gets into the front seat, drags her in behind him and then drives off.
The Birmingham News quoted police as saying there was activity on Gregory's account at three area branches of AmSouth bank following the abduction.
The missing Lexus belongs to Gregory's boyfriend, the newspaper said, and her ex-husband was sent to pick up his and Gregory's daughter at day care.
