At Wallace Community College in Dothan, a day long workshop was held on terrorism this weekend.
It was a training seminar for health professionals on providing quality care to victims of chemical and bioterrorism while protecting themselves.
The workshop covered agents including Anthrax, Smallpox, Ebola and Pnumonic Plague.
Smallpox was a source of key interest because our region is one of 11 public health regions in Alabama that have a Smallpox response team.
Should an actual case or cases of Smallpox be identified these response teams will be mobilized to vaccinate and follow up with persons exposed to the disease and to care for persons with Smallpox.
Workshop presenter Linda Hooper wrote the training program in response to the Sept. 11 attacks.
Hooper says much of the workshop was designed to refute misinformation regarding bioterrorism.
