Tri-State Water War

Georgia is taking too much water from Alabama and Florida. At least that's what Alabama and Florida lawmakers in Washington believe and they say it may only get worse.

Georgia lawmakers say, Alabama’s attempt in congress this week to prevent the Army Corp. of engineers from allowing Atlanta to draw even more water from the Apalachicola, Chattahoochee, and the Flint River system is baseless.

Florida joined in Alabama’s fight, charging that Georgia garners about 700 million gallons of water a day from the river system.

“Unless we get something changed in the Senate...Then AL will have less drinking water, out of the 2 river basins, less power generation, less navigation, and obviously less recreation,” said Rep. Terry Everett

Everett hopes that U.S Senators, Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions can take up the fight in the senate.
