One of the south's oldest textile companies, Avondale Mills, has announced it may close some of its operations in Alabama and is attempting to sell others.
Avondale chairman and CEO Stephen Felker said in a letter to employees the company is considering closing its textile plants as early as July 25th, including plants in Sylacauga and Pell City.
The closure would affect more than 1100 workers, but Felker said a final decision has not been made.
An Avondale mill is a 161-year-old, Georgia-based textile company operates 20 plants across the Carolinas, Georgia and Alabama.
