More than 26 million U.S. veterans and some of their spouses have had their personal information compromised.
Computer files containing their names, social security numbers and birthdates have been stolen from the home of a Department of Veterans affairs data analyst.
The department says the employee violated department policy by taking the records home, and has been placed on administrative leave.
The department says so far it has seen no indication that the information has been misused.
