Jewelry Store Robbery Detail

Dothan police are still searching for three men they believe are responsible for Thursday’s armed robbery of a local jewelry store. Investigators say they are actively pursuing several leads.

The owner of the store is estimating more than $50,000 worth of jewelry was taken from his store, along with cash from a safe.

He says the entire robbery lasted only about five minutes. Police are hoping evidence they have gathered will lead to an arrest.

Investigators say two men walked into Interco Coin and Jewelry Thursday and stole about $50,000 worth of merchandise. The shop owner says he was forced to stand by helplessly, with a gun pointed in his face. As he watched, two men hauled out garbage bags holding what he had worked more than 40 years for.

Owner Interco Coin and Jewelry Herbert Harr said, "Not much I could do. The person had a ski mask, I couldn't see their face, and I just saw the gun in my face."

Although the robbers were wearing ski masks, police do know that there are three African American men involved. The robbers drove away in a light colored van, which was found abandoned about five minutes from the scene.

"We will have robberies here in Dothan. We will take very effort to offer protection to community and try to bring these guys to justice," said Police Chief John Powell

Most people who face life and death situations reassess their lives and sometimes make drastic changes, but Harr says he has a duty and will continue to fulfill it.

"It made me think. Should I close? If I was a poor man this wouldn't happen to me, but I am here to serve the public and I've been in business for 40 years," said Harr.

As the old saying goes, what doesn't kill us, only makes us stronger, and Harr says the next time this happens he will ensure the outcome is much different.

The owner managed to put four bullets into the tire and body of the get-away van, enough to stall the robbers a little. However police say it looks like another vehicle was involved to help the robbers escape from police.
