The Houston County commission is taking steps to prepare for the county's first ever sales tax holiday.
A bill was passed in the last legislative session allowing for the holiday.
The bill will go into full effect July 1.
The commission will meet shortly after that date to officially recognize the sales tax holiday on school supplies, including clothes, computers, and other supplies commonly used in kindergarten through high school.
The commission wants businesses to have advance notice of the holiday so they can fully prepare for any changes that will need to take place.
Houston Co. Commission Chairman, Mark Culver said, “What we want is for all the businesses to know what is happening and the residents to know what is happening. We just want everyone to have as much education about it as we can.”
If approved by the commission in July, the sales tax holiday will take place the weekend of August 4 to 6.
