Dothan City School Board Meeting

There may be no more sports programs in Dothan's middle schools. That is just one of many proposed cuts in the city school system.

The Dothan City School Board held a work session Tuesday to discuss budget reductions for the next school year.

The board also heard suggestions from members of the community about areas where reductions could be made.

The school board needs to cut about $3 million from next year's budget. Suggestions have been made to reduce nine teaching positions and two collision repair teachers at the technology center.

There's also talk of taking away support staff such as janitors, clerical staff and teacher aides.

The school system's assistant superintendent says cuts could likely include extra-curricular activities.

The school board will make its final decision about the budget cuts at a meeting scheduled for April 28.
