Just two days before the Medicare Part D enrollment deadline, Florida state Senator Ron Klein is claiming the program is a pay-off to pharmaceutical companies...and is denying benefits to thousands of seniors.
He noted that up to 160,000 seniors in Florida may lose coverage and more than 315,000 seniors in the state could be forced to pay higher fees under the plan.
However, President Bush is brushing aside criticism.
He says it allows choices for senior citizens and promotes competition to hold down costs.
Some seniors who miss Monday's deadline could be forced to pay a penalty.
