Hundreds of people packed the Ozark Civic Center Thursday afternoon for a regional job fair aimed at improving southeast Alabama’s economic status.
Job fair was scheduled to coincide with the closing of one of the areas largest industries.
McDonald’s, Marry Kay Cosmetics and Auto Zone all have staff openings here in the Wiregrass; with the recent closing of the Van Huesen plant in Ozark.
Members of the southeast Alabama council for economic development want to help area residents get back on their feet financially.
"There's a little over 500 that are being displaced, from the surrounding counties, that were working at Van Huesen, and there's quite a few companies in the area that are looking for help right now," said Robin Beasley.
There are jobs available at the Ozark Fire Department is low on man power and they are looking to hire more firefighters.
