A girl who was struck by lightning in Montgomery has died.
Tracey Steele had been in critical condition since the strike, which happened Tuesday in the parking lot of a shopping center. Steele's mother and another adult were also hit by the bolt. They are both expected to recover from their injuries.
While many may believe this is a freak accident, it actually happens more often than you might think. According to weather forecasters, a person is more likely to be struck by lightning than to be injured in a hurricane or tornado.
Last year, 12 people in Alabama were injured by lightning and one died.
Lightning travels in three ways: through the ground, through wires and pipes and by direct hit.
There are some things you can do to stay safe.
Forecasters say summer is the most likely time people can be hit by lightening.
