Farley Nuclear Plant

Since the start of the war, many have wondered how vulnerable our nuclear power plants are around the country.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission met with Southern Nuclear officials and discussed the Farley Nuclear Power Plant's safety performance.

A Nuclear Regulatory Commission 2002 assessment letter showed that Farley operated in a manner that preserved public health and safety. That means Farley won't have to undergo additional inspections beyond the regularly scheduled ones.

Since the Sept.11 attacks, the NRC has issued several orders and threat advisories to enhance security and improve plant guard readiness. Plant officials said these security measures are examples of a tougher security system at the facility.

For more information about the NRC's assessment letter on Farley, you can visit the NRC online at www.nrc.gov.
