A fire at Pinewood Apartments in Clio left residents in eight separate units without homes Thursday.
Fire Departments from Barbour and Pike Counties came together to fight the blaze.
No residents were injured, but a few firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion.
Incident commander Mike Stell, the Fire Chief of Greens Crossings, says the teamwork helped to ensure that a bad situation was not worse.
"Mutual aid for Barbour County is the most important thing we can do," Cheif Stell said. "We all come together and work together. If it wasn't for mutual aid we would have lost more that we lost today."
Shantel Eutsey, an apartment resident who wasn't home during the fire, says she is counting her blessings.
"I am glad me and my kids were not in there," Eutsey said. "One was at school, and the other was with my sister. I am glad everybody wasn't in there, and I am glad everyone who was made it out okay."
