A new million dollar public school is now open in northwest, Florida. Mossy Head Elementary is the first school to be built in western Walton County.
The pre-k through 5th-grade school will alleviate overcrowding in DeFuniak Springs. It will serve students in rural Okaloosa County.
Mossy Head Elementary is completely retro-fitted with 21st-century technology.
School district superintendent, Carlene Anderson, says the school board purchased plenty of land for additional classrooms when space becomes limited.
"We will begin the process of having education facilities here in western Walton County. we will also serve students from Okaloosa County a lot shorter trip than to Crestview, and alleviate crowding in DeFuniak Springs," said Anderson
Currently, there are approximately 200-students enrolled at Mossy Head Elementary.
