Do Not Call List

The Federal Trade Commission has released its schedule for launching the new Do Not Call registry, which is being created under legislation that President Bush signed earlier this month.

The FTC said when registration opens in July, consumers will have two ways to sign up: online or by telephone. The Web site address and the toll-free number will be announced in June.

Officials said after you add your phone number to the list, you should begin to receive fewer unwanted telemarketing calls in about three months.

By October, it will be illegal for telemarketers to call any number in the registry. Each violation will bring a fine of up to $11,000.
