There's a new Wiregrass service based in Ozark that many said gives a hand up to people in need, instead of a hand out.

The JOY Caring Society is a non-profit charitable organization. They provide assistance to people who are disabled and waiting to receive social security disability benefits. They also help senior citizens with food and medicine.

Joyce Howell founded the organization that's relatively new -- it was incorporated last July.

The society has many features. It's a thrift shop and a monthly food bank for those that qualify. It also pays utilities.

Howell hosted an open house this weekend to get the word out and the community responded.

If you need assistance or want more information about the society, call 334-445-6355.

JOY stands for Jesus first, Others second and Yourself last.
