The Houston County commission is now one of four other agencies taking part in the downtown master plan.
At a Monday meeting they discussed their role in the project.
The county says they are the second largest stakeholder in the project as they own many buildings downtown including the county courthouse and jail.
It plans to actively participate in the project and is looking forward to having a more appealing area in which residents of Dothan can shop and live.
“We are part of the plan and we want to make sure that individual property owners aren't building outside of the plan. The city also needs to enforce their rules for downtown and we are ready to see things happen downtown,” said Mark Culves of the Houston County Commission.
The county commission and the other three organizations involved with the plan will pay for a third of the funding.
The city of Dothan is paying for the other two-thirds of the cost.
