The head of the state Human Resources Department has asked that his salary be cut by five percent because of the budget crisis facing state government.

Commissioner Bill Fuller sent a letter to Gov. Riley and Finance Director Drayton Nabers asking that his $139,000 annual salary be reduced to $132,000.

Fuller's request came several days after the governor agreed to a request from the Alabama State Employees Association that he cut his pay by five percent. State employees association director Mac McArthur has also agreed to have his salary cut.

State officials have said they expect revenue to be about $500 million short of what will be needed for next year's budgets.
