Death Penalty

Death Penalty

Alabama's new death penalty law goes into effect on July 1.

Instead of the electric chair, lethal injection will be used for prisoners on death row.

Some people say more convicts will be sentenced to death because people see lethal injection as a more humane way to die. Circuit Judge Lawson Little said he doesn't believe that'll be the case because the actual means of death isn't chosen by the jury.

Judge Little also said the U.S. Supreme Court is considering a law that would limit a judge's ability to override the opinion of the jury in death penalty cases.
