I-10 Lawsuit

Some property owners in West Dothan have filed a lawsuit against Mayor Chester Sowell and the City Commission. They're trying to stop any further progress on the proposed location of the I-10 Connector.

The lawsuit claims the commission did not allow the public the opportunity to speak out about their "compromise" plan for the connector.

The commission passed a resolution on Feb. 4 endorsing a Western route that would include interchanges inside city limits.

District Five Commissioner Pat Thomas said the homeowners who've filed the lawsuit are in his district. But, he said the decision on exactly where to place the I-10 Connector route is in the hands of the Alabama Department of Transportation.

Thomas said he has met with most of the homeowners and said they're simply trying to cover all their bases and protect their property.

He also said ALDOT will allow for public input before a final decision on the route is made.
