14-THOUSAND DOLLARS IN SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED TONIGHT BY THE DOTHAN ELKS LODGE NUMBER 1887. THE SCHOLARSHIPS WERE PRESENTED TO THE STUDENTS AT A DINNER CEREMONY.
THOSE WHO RECEIVED THE AWARDS ARE NICHOLAS ADAMS, ELANA BARRETT, BENJAMIN CHENEY, DIANE MORRILL, CHARLSIE SMITH, CORY SMITH AND KATHERINE WARE.
YEARS AGO, THE DOTHAN ELKS LODGE BEGAN GIVING 2 SCHOLARSHIPS AT A TIME AT 1 THOUSAND DOLLARS EACH.
THROUGHOUT THE YEARS, SUPPORT HAS GROWN AND THEY ARE PROUD TO NOW ABLE TO GIVE NEARLY 5 TIMES THEIR ORIGINAL AMOUNT.
Edith Stark, Scholarship Committee Chairperson says, "It's the future of this country. We have to help those who need it. There are so many students who are capable of learning but they simply can't afford it. And the scholarships are based on 3 things: leadership, scholarship and need." THE STUDENTS RECEIVED CERTIFICATES FOR THEIR SCHOLARSHIPS TONIGHT.
THE MONEY ITSELF WILL BE MAILED DIRECTLY TO THE STUDENT'S COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY AND PLACED IN THEIR ACCOUNT.
