Twenty-five-year-old Antonio Smith was accused in the shooting death of his girlfriend, 21-year-old Lakendra Kirkland.
She was shot once in the head in January of 2000 and Smith was arrested at the scene.
Witnesses testified Smith was drunk and waving a pistol around inside an apartment when the victim was killed during a domestic dispute.
Defense attorneys claimed the shooting was a tragic accident, but prosecutors said Smith pulled the trigger in a drunken rage.
The victim's mother said she is satisfied with the guilty verdict.
Jurors deliberated about two and a half hours before reaching a decision. Smith faces up to life behind bars. Sentencing is set for April 30.
