A Panhandle man is in a Wiregrass jail Monday on a charge of being a fugitive from justice.
The Laurel Hill resident is a convicted sex offender and was wanted by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Department.
Samson police arrested James Steven Catrett at a residence near the town's elementary school.
Police Chief Gary Weeks says several neighbors reported that the 42-year-old fugitive had been doing construction work in the area for several weeks.
Chief Weeks said Catrett had also reportedly been living on and off in Samson.
Catrett has reportedly waived extradition at the Geneva County Jail. He will be transferred to the Okaloosa County Jail in Crestview.
