City Urges Federal Regulators to Approve Berm

In Florida, the Destin City council has approved plans to build a protective berm along the beach and is now waiting on a federal permit.

The proposed berm would be about 14 feet high and between 10 feet and 30 feet in different sections. The project would include sea oats and fences to help keep sand in place.

The planned project will be twice as big as previous berms built after hurricanes.

But the council is afraid the city may not get the permit in time for this year's hurricane season.

The council is now urging federal officials to expedite the approval.
