A Houston County man has been convicted of the rape and attempted murder of a six-year-old girl. The jury deliberated about 45 minutes Wednesday before reaching a verdict for 25-year-old Freeshone McLeod.

He now faces from 20 years to life in prison on each count. The young victim was left disabled by the attack, but at the trial she identified McLeod as the man who hit her in the head with a "wok lid" in October of 2001.

DNA evidence also linked McLeod to the crime. District Attorney Doug Valeska says he intends to put McLeod behind bars and keep him there.

McLeod is being held in the Houston County Jail. He's scheduled to be sentenced on May 28.
